CRITIC'S SELECT

In this exhibition art critics will be asked to select works by artists they have viewed in the past year whose work stands out as exemplifying the spirit of contemporary art today or is representative of a new trend in art. These “Critical Selections” will be artists who deserve greater attention for their art because of their contributions to the larger artistic dialog. Critics involved are: Barbara MacAdam (ARTnews),Gae Savannah (Art Forum and Flash Art), Carol Kino (Art and Auction Magazine), Robin Rice (Philadelphia City Paper) Judith Stein (Critic, Philadelphia ), Edward Gomez (The New York Times).

PAINT IT BLACK
Curated by D. Ferrari. 
In western culture black has a long association with the negative – sin, holes, evil, voids, depravity, the sinister and the absence of light, to name a few. This show will draw attention to artists who have used a predominantly black palette and their reasons for choosing black, which vary nearly as much as the reasons existing for art-making – to draw out from nothingness issues of transcendence, social pressures, purity of form, spiritual identity, racial issues, and more. Artists Exhibited were Chakaia Booker Karen Gunderson, K ocot + Hadden, Gary Kuehn, Sol Lewitt, Quentin Morris, Lars Strandh, Ad Reinhardt, Richard Serra, and Merrill Wagner.

This exhibition will again feature the best "new blood" that NJ has to offer.  Master of Fine Art graduates from Mason Gross School of the Arts, William Patterson U., Montclair U. , and NJ City College will again be asked to participate.
