Ever wonder how mural painters can make such accurate images on a large scale? Well, your search has ended. Muralist Bob Mataranglo will present a 3 hour workshop on several methods of “scaling up” images from scale models. Participants will have hands on opportunities to experience all of the methods on an interior building wall. All materials will be provided. Although no painting will be done, it is still suggested to wear old clothes. This workshop should be of interest to all artists, beginning muralists, “wannabe” muralists, those who just want to learn how it's done, and anyone else who seeks a unique artsy experience. Artist and Liquitex Education Advisor Amy Faris will show you how to take acrylic paint and mediums beyond the traditional ground of the gessoed canvas. Using various mediums and gels from the Liquitex acrylic line, learn how to make photo transfers, plastic transfer sheets and acrylic “pours”, and how you can use textured gels as an alternative ground to work on. There will be time for some hands-on experience with the different mediums and gels, and all participants receive a sample pack of mediums to take home. TUITION: $30 ($40 non-members)

WHAT’S INTAGLIO? Intaglio is a printmaking technique in which the image is incised into a surface, known as the matrix or plate. Normally, copper or zinc plates are used as a surface, and the incisions are created by etching, engraving, drypoint, aquatint or mezzotint. Intaglio was fi rst used around 1480, the drypoint technique attained its apogee in Rembrandt’s work. A few of the masters of drypoint in the 20th Century were Edvard Munch, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Beckmann, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali. |

Glass fusing is the process of melting glass together in a kiln. In this workshop students will learn different techniques to make fused glass collage tile. We'll start with the basics of glass cutting, then add curves, and painting techniques with glue and frit in the later weeks. (There is a modest fee of $10 per 6" x 6" sheet of colored glass.
